Facile Art

My work is not simply about contrasting the cold precise industrial and the soft hazy aura of memories. It is (or will be) about the way in which we place barriers to our understanding of the past – we are constantly sectioning areas off, editing. In this way we are our own authoritarian voice.

I am, however, worried that my work will appear too…easy, much too facile. I fear I will be seen as merely playing a pseudo-conceptual game in order to justify the pleasure I derive from making my work. I feel a certain pressure to be committed, but I’m not sure to what.

I also want to take my work outside of itself. I am fascinated by the idea of some sort of performance or interaction with the ‘audience’. I would like to make it a truly enervating experience.
